Shandi Finnessey, representing the state of Missouri, was crowned Miss USA 2004 in April during the televised pageant that followed a special Miss USA Fear Factor show. She will represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant in June.
Shandi is a masters graduate student in St. Louis, MO, working toward her doctorate degree in counseling. She is an advocate for individuals with mental challenges—especially elementary school children—and gives of her heart, her voice, and her time integrating these individuals into society. Shandi published her children’s book, The Furrtails, with Infinity Publishing in August 2002. Her book, illustrated by Michael Tucker, tells the story of a family of rabbits who live in their burrow next to Mr. Villman’s farm. Sammy, is not as quick and smart as his younger brother, and soon finds himself stuck in a cage, unable to get out. Each rabbit must use his or her “special” gifts to help free Sammy from the trap. This story is intended to teach children that each of us have things that we are really good at and things that we may need help with. One is not better than another, only different. This is what makes us all special and unique. She is now the co-host, with Chuck Woolery, of a new game show, Lingo, which airs on the game show network nightly at 7pm. |
